Peterlis was born into the Chagga Tribe in 1987 and grew up on the outskirts of the Kilimanjaro region in Tanzania, at the foot of Africa’s famous, tallest mountain.

He attended a professional tour guiding college in Arusha region and graduated in 2009 with a certificate in wildlife management and outdoor leadership skills.

Asked to explain his affinity to nature, he responds like a true philosopher: that he loves nature first and foremost because he is part of it and because he feels a connection with everything in it, from the trees, grass and flowers to the birds and ants. Peterlis describes nature as something timeless, while humans are not, either individually or as a species. He thinks the most revealing way to be reminded of the preciousness and shortness of life is simply by watching animals in their natural habitat
