Discover China with a Bilingual Local Guide Hi! I’m a bilingual private tour guide offering personalized travel experiences in China. Fluent in both English and Chinese, I specialize in creating immersive, culturally rich journeys for international travelers. From July to September and January to March, I’m based in Chengdu, the heart of Sichuan, where you can explore ancient temples, vibrant markets, and, of course, taste world-famous spicy cuisine. For the rest of the year, I operate in Beijing, guiding guests through the capital’s timeless landmarks—from the Great Wall to the Forbidden City—and uncovering hidden gems only locals know. With a deep love for Chinese history, culture, and cuisine, I’m here to bring each story to life, whether through a scenic walk in a traditional hutong or a delicious street food adventure. I also offer photography support, so you can take home beautiful memories without missing a moment. Let me help you experience the real China—its flavors, stories, and soul—through the eyes of a passionate local.
Meet Your Bilingual Private Tour Guide in China: A Young Local with Passion, Knowledge, and Heart

Hello and welcome! I am a bilingual private tour guide based in China. I was born in 2005 in the vibrant city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, also known as the Land of Pandas and Snow-Capped Mountains. With my roots deeply connected to the rich culture, flavorful cuisine, and natural beauty of western China, I have developed a deep love for my country’s heritage and a passion for sharing it with people from around the world.

Though I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Business in Tianjin, a coastal city close to Beijing, I remain deeply committed to my work as a tour guide. My studies do not interfere with the quality of my service—in fact, they enhance it. I bring a youthful and dynamic perspective to each tour, especially since I understand what young travelers today are curious about: not just historical landmarks, but also local lifestyles, authentic food, unique art scenes, and unforgettable stories.

Professional Experience & Credentials
In 2024, I had the honor of working as an English-speaking guide during the Chengdu FISU World University Games, an international multi-sport event that brought together students from over 100 countries. That experience taught me how to engage with travelers from diverse backgrounds, communicate clearly and confidently in English, and solve problems quickly with professionalism and care.

Recently, I earned my official tour guide license, certified and recognized by the Chinese government, which ensures that I meet all the necessary qualifications to lead tours safely and knowledgeably.

I scored 557 on the CET-4 (College English Test Band 4), which reflects a strong proficiency in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I am currently preparing for the more advanced CET-6 to further elevate my language skills.

Where I Work & When
I divide my time between two of China’s most iconic regions:

Chengdu (Sichuan): Every July to September and January to March, I return to my hometown to offer local experiences full of warmth, spice, and wonder. From Sichuan opera to tea houses, from panda sanctuaries to hotpot feasts, I will help you discover the magic of southwestern China.

Beijing (via Tianjin): During the rest of the year, I am based in or near Beijing, one of the greatest cultural capitals of the world. Because Tianjin is only a short ride away, I travel frequently between the two cities and know them both intimately. I offer personalized tours in both locations—whether you want to see the Forbidden City at sunrise, explore Beijing’s hutongs, or enjoy a modern art show in Tianjin’s Binhai district.

My Language Skills
I am proud to be fluent in both Mandarin and English, and my mother tongue is Sichuanese, a lively and melodic dialect full of local color. I can switch smoothly between dialects depending on the context and will always make sure you feel included and comfortable.

My Interests and Approach
As a student, I am actively involved in university life—participating in clubs, organizing events, and engaging with international exchange programs. This vibrant academic environment has shaped me into a confident, open-minded, and culturally sensitive individual. I truly love this job—not just because it allows me to travel, meet new people, and speak English, but because it lets me serve as a bridge between cultures.

Some things I particularly enjoy sharing with my guests include:

History & Architecture: I bring China’s ancient dynasties to life through storytelling, connecting emperors and scholars to the places they once walked.

Local Food Adventures: I’m a serious food lover! Whether it’s Chengdu’s street snacks or Beijing’s traditional roast duck, I will guide you to the tastiest and most authentic spots.

Photography: I have a strong eye for composition and natural light, so I often help travelers take memorable travel photos—whether with their phones or DSLRs.

Cultural Exchange: I am always curious about your background, too. I see every tour as a two-way experience where we both learn something new.

What I Offer
As your guide, I promise to offer:

Customized private tours based on your preferences—be it cultural, culinary, historical, or modern.

Bilingual communication in fluent English and Mandarin.

Seasonal recommendations—from flower festivals to ski trips.

Local tips on transport, etiquette, bargaining, and safety.

Photo assistance to help you capture your trip in style.

Flexible scheduling, with both full-day and half-day options.

Whether you're a solo traveler, a couple, a family, or a group of friends, I will tailor the experience to suit your needs, energy levels, and curiosity.

Why Choose Me?
I am not just a guide—I am a storyteller, translator, planner, photographer, and most importantly, a friend on the road. My youth is not a disadvantage; it is a strength. I understand today’s travelers in ways others might not. I know where to find the coolest cafés with traditional courtyard settings, the quietest corners of the Great Wall, the trendiest art alleys in Tianjin, and the best spice levels to match your taste buds in Chengdu.

You will feel safe, seen, and inspired when you travel with me. And after the tour, I hope you won’t just leave with souvenirs, but with a deeper understanding of China, new perspectives on life, and a new friend.

Final Words
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I would be honored to guide you through the cities I call home and share the places, stories, and flavors that have shaped who I am. Let’s walk, taste, explore, and discover China—together.

I look forward to meeting you soon!

Warm regards,
Darren Ye
