I offer tours of my hometown, Nashville, Tennessee, USA for groups or individuals. Tours consist of either aboard a motorcoach, privately owned vehicle, or a walking tour.
In addition, I am a Certified International Tour Manager and am available to manager group travel either inbound to Nashville or outbound to any destination.
A dear friend once quipped to me, "Gary, you have the spirit of a warrior and the heart of a poet." I am convinced my career as a travel professional is a result of an unconscious effort to meld together my disparate callings of personality. A "poet" is the proverbial wanderer, explorer, and self-assigned seeker searching for meaning behind stories, discovering similarities between places, and understanding the people and their expenditure of time. The "warrior" element breathes through the actions taken to insure security of my guests, in the endless cycle of trip preparations, and as the attention paid to foster and nurture meaningful relationships with vendors and operators. An effective "on the road" team needs to function as a coordinated unit and requires a dedication and intent to serve if we are to exceed expectations.
It has been suggested, and my mother would agree, I am an authentically kind, intelligent, and thoughtful person. Covertly, I wish I could leap as high, and with such ease, as my cat. But being "thoughtful" is a trait I can hold in regard for the world needs more thoughtful folks.
A growing edge of mine is a mindfulness of, and a concentration toward, an innate rising impulse of growing enthusiasm for destinations visited, including cultural uniqueness of the region and its people. Should excitement rue the day, my narration may be delivered quickly and details possibly omitted. At times, my "warrior" spirit cedes authority over to the "poet". That poet knows the impact possible when guests experience the magic of "place." Travelers are merely renters of time in an area. We never own a place but, rather, we own our time in a specific location. Eventually, others will rise and fill our time slots. Making the connections of destination with our neighbors of the world can be a catalyst for a reaction that ends with deeper understanding of those persistent life questions; "Where are we?”, "Where have we been?", and, "Where are we going?".
