Passionate, Amsterdam-born guide offering Anne Frank & Jewish history tours, thrilling ghost tours, tasty food tours, Rijksmuseum tours, fun city tours, and craft beer adventures. Personal, engaging, and full of hidden local gems!
Hi! My name is Kees, and I was born and raised in Amsterdam. My journey as a tour guide began in the Johan Cruijff Arena, and from there, my love for storytelling and connecting with people from all over the world only grew. Over the years, I’ve guided countless visitors through my city, and today I specialize in a variety of tours that reflect both my passions and my roots.
My main expertise lies in Jewish history, particularly around the life of Anne Frank and the broader Jewish experience in Amsterdam during and after World War II. These tours are deeply researched, respectful, and delivered with care. I understand the emotional weight of this history and approach it with the seriousness and sensitivity it deserves—there is absolutely no place for jokes here, only empathy, knowledge, and meaningful storytelling.
That said, not all of Amsterdam’s stories are heavy. I also offer engaging city tours full of surprising facts, legends, and hidden spots. My food tours are all about local tastes and flavors, taking you through beautiful neighborhoods to discover real Dutch bites. If you’re into beer, my craft beer tours explore Amsterdam’s pub culture and the rise of local breweries. I have a deep knowledge of the world of beer—before becoming a guide, I worked for ten years in specialty beer cafés, where I gained hands-on experience and a real passion for everything from classic Belgian ales to bold new local IPA’s. I love sharing that world with fellow beer lovers in a relaxed, sociable setting.
I studied hospitality, and I’m the son of an art historian. I often say I studied history not in school, but at home—my father trained me personally for all my tours. His passion became mine, and it shows in the depth of my stories and the way I bring history to life.
What makes my tours different? I believe in balance. I’m not the guy in a stiff suit giving you a lecture, but I’m also not doing stand-up comedy. I aim for a mix of humor, fun facts, and rich, accurate information—an experience that feels alive and real, not scripted or dry.
And yes, I speak excellent English.
Whether you’re looking for a powerful and educational Anne Frank tour, a flavorful food walk, a creepy ghost tour, a world-class museum visit, or just a great time discovering the city—I’d love to show you Amsterdam through the eyes of a true local
