Discover Trieste, the Karst and Slovenian Istria through the eyes of a local guide. I combine history, art, culture and fascinating stories to create authentic, engaging tours in Italian, Slovenian and English for private visitors, groups and schools.
I am a licensed tour guide based in Trieste, a unique city at the crossroads of Italian, Slovenian, Central European and Mediterranean cultures. I am bilingual in Italian and Slovenian and also offer guided tours in English. My work is deeply connected to the territory where I live, and I particularly enjoy introducing visitors to the history, culture, art and fascinating stories that have shaped this border region.
My education and professional experience have given me a broad knowledge of the history and cultural heritage of Trieste, the Karst, the Slovenian Littoral and the Istrian coast. I specialize in the history of Trieste and its multicultural identity, the Austro-Hungarian heritage, the First and Second World Wars, the complex history of the Italian-Slovenian border, and the traditions and landscapes of the Karst. I also have a particular interest in local art and artists, especially the work and cultural heritage of Lojze Spacal, one of the most important Slovenian artists of the 20th century, whose artistic world is closely connected with the Karst and the landscapes of this region.
As a guide, I work with very different types of visitors: individual travellers, families, private groups, organised tours and school groups. I adapt each tour to the interests, age and needs of my guests. With school groups, I aim to make history understandable and engaging, connecting historical events with the places we are actually visiting. For adults and private travellers, I enjoy going beyond the most famous landmarks and discovering the less-known details, stories and viewpoints that make a place truly memorable.
I offer guided tours in Trieste, including the historic city centre, Miramare Castle and the surrounding area, as well as excursions through the Karst and into Slovenia. I also guide visitors in Piran and the Slovenian coastal area, where I can combine history, architecture, Venetian heritage, maritime traditions and the particular character of the Istrian landscape.
One of my strengths is my personal knowledge of this cross-border territory. I believe that the best way to understand Trieste and the surrounding region is not to look at it as a collection of separate countries and historical periods, but as a place where different cultures, languages and identities have met, sometimes peacefully and sometimes through difficult historical events.
I try to make every tour informative without being overloaded with dates and facts. I prefer to tell stories, explain connections and encourage questions, so that visitors can understand not only what they are seeing, but also why it matters.
Whether you are interested in history, art, architecture, local traditions, the sea, the Karst or simply in discovering an authentic side of Trieste and Slovenian Istria, I am happy to create a tour that suits your interests and makes you feel connected to the place you are visiting.
