Being a professional historian with studies in modern history, i have a wide expertise about Crete. I love doing History Tours in Chania, as well as Battle of Crete Tours and alternative tourism and hiking tours in Crete. I was born and raised in Crete, and after finishing my Bachelor's degree in History (BA) i decided that tour guide was my designated carred path. After i finished my master's degree (MSc), i established my own travel agency in Chania, called Proper Cretan Guide , www.propercretanguide.gr , providing Full day and half day private tours. I mainly do, ecotourism tours, alternative tours, experiences, history tours and excursions that let you uncover the non touristy part of Crete, and unfold our authentic side! My website for my private tours of my travel agency in Chania is www.propercretanguide.gr and you can reach me on info@propercretanguide.gr and on WhatsApp at +30 6983705318.
My husband doesn't like driving on mountainous roads, so I decided to book a couple tours. I found Proper Cretan Guide online before our trip and booked three private all day tours. The first was an Imbros Gorge transfer, the second was an Elafonisi Beach transfer and the third was called Explore Pure Chania: Authentic Villages of Crete. Our guide, Apostolis, was extremely knowledgeable about places to go in Crete and the history of Crete. We really enjoyed talking to him as we learned so much. He was flexible and considered our interests which made our days enjoyable. On the first tour, after Imbros Gorge, he took us to a beach that we requested and then offered to take us to an unofficial WW2 Museum, which my husband found fascinating. Once again on the second tour, the conversation was easy and informative. After the beach, he recommended one of his favorite restaurants and it was excellent. With each tour, we got to know our guide, Apostolis, more and more. It felt like we had a friend in Crete. If we had questions we could ask him and that proved very helpful a couple of times. On the third tour, we saw stunning views, learned about making olive oil, both in the old traditional way and the modern factory way. We saw a 3,000 year old olive tree that we would have never heard of on our own. We found that our days with Apostolis added so much to our experience that we added a fourth private tour with him to see the Akrotiri Peninsula. When we left Crete, we had a deeper understanding of Crete and felt more connected to the island thanks to these tours. Apostolis is a genuinely nice person and my husband and I highly recommend him.
